Dursey Island

The perfect getaway

Dursey Island is the perfect getaway, and it is separated from the mainland of Ireland by a narrow sound known for its very strong tides. Dursey Island is accessed by Ireland’s only cable car 250m above the sea, and it can carry six people at a time. The cable car journey is about 15 minutes long, and the views are absolutely incredible. The island does not have any shops, pubs, or restaurants, and visitors can truly feel the peacefulness of the area when they arrive. The island is home to three small villages, and the Beara Way Walking Trail is located on the island. The ruins of the ancient church of Kilmichael, founded by Monks from Skellig Michael, is located on the island. Visitors can also spot the 200 year old Signal Tower on the island’s most westerly hill.
